Social Engineering Part 2

Know thy enemy

Social engineering is the practice of obtaining confidential information through manipulation of legitimate users. Learn to detect when you are being used!

  • A person could send you an email with a link which prompts you for you username and password. Once you enter the information, the person can view it and use it for personal gain! (phishing)
  • A person could send you an email with an attachment claiming to be a cool game or even pornography. You open the attachment without knowing that a virus has been installed in the process.
  • To fight social engineering, remember to never give out information to anyone without confirming their identity. Never hand out usernames or passwords over the phone or through links and “surveys”.

Never open attachments of unsure origins!
