In the world of technology; viruses, trojans and worms are malicious programs that install themselves on your computer and make it act in an undesirable way. This can be prevented through the use of anti-virus software. Here is a brief overview of their behavior:

Virus: A computer virus is a program that can copy itself and infect a computer without permission from or knowledge of the user. Some viruses are programmed to damage the computer by damaging programs, deleting files, or reformatting the hard disk.

Worm: self-replicating type of virus. It uses a network to send copies of itself to other nodes, usually through e-mail.

Trojans: Malicious programs similar to viruses. Notorious for their use of “backdoors” which allow hackers a conduit to your computer bypassing normal authentication.
You can stop the spread of these damaging programs. Never open suspicious attachments from your emails! Never download programs off of the Internet.
